Canada - City of Vancouver asks for input on West End waterfront plan
VANCOUVER – The City of Vancouver has revealed its draft concept design for a transformation of the city’s West End waterfront and is looking for public feedback.
Imagine West End Waterfront is a 30-year plan for the city’s coastal beaches and parks stretching between the Burrard Bridge and Stanley Park, a City of Vancouver release said, and the draft design addresses sea level rise to population growth, aging infrastructure and habitat enhancement while drawing on feedback from residents, businesses and tourists.
The West End waterfront includes four existing parks: English Bay Beach Park, Sunset Beach Park, Alexandra Park and Morton Park, as well as the Seaside Greenway and Beach Avenue.
“We know how cherished the West End waterfront is for both residents and visitors, but it’s clear that its long-term future is dependent on the decisions we make today. The new concept design marks not only a critical next step in our approach to coastal adaptation, but also captures the many challenges and opportunities when reimagining cities of the future,” said Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation director of planning and park development Tiina Mack in a statement.
Until Nov. 26 the public is invited to review the design and give input on how proposed elements might meet community needs over the next three decades.
The feedback will inform the final West End Waterfront Plan, due to go to the Vancouver Park Board and Vancouver City Council for decision in spring 2024, the release said.
The public can give feedback through an online survey and at open house events at UBC Robson Square on Nov. 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. PT and at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre lobby on Nov. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. PT.
