You Can Now Chase The Northern Lights From A Floating Lodge
Each year intrepid travelers venture to the furthest, darkest points of the earth in hopes of seeing one thing: the Northern Lights. While you can certainly book a traditional tour in Iceland or sleep in a glass-roofed hotel in Finland to see them, some travel companies want to take viewing to the next level.
Off the Map Travel launched a new experience this year where you can chase the Aurora Borealis by boat. Yes, the new Floating in Tromso program allows guests to stay on and hunt for the Northern Lights from a new luxury floating lodge this winter located off the Arctic coast near Tromso, Norway.
Built on a 1960s ferry, the VOLDA floating lodge has since been renovated into a modern home using classic Scandinavian design with modern amenities. On the 1,100-square-foot boat, you’ll find seven bedrooms, an open plan living room and kitchen area with a 13-foot long dining table, multiple lounging areas, and an officer’s cabin. Nearly every room has large panoramic windows so you can lay in bed or eat dinner while waiting for Earth’s light show to begin.
