The rise and fall of the holiday home

No passports or vaccinations were required for holidays when Jacinta Allardice was a child. Family getaways simply involved squeezing into the back of the car and following the Pacific Highway north to Port Stephens.

“We’d all pile into this small house a couple of streets from the beach," she recalls. "I have lots of very, very fond memories of being up there with all of the cousins around Christmas time and the school holidays."

Allardice’s husband Clinton shares similar memories of getaways at his family’s holiday home on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

These memories motivated the couple to purchase a house at Copacabana on the Central Coast 10 years ago with Clinton’s brother and parents.
