Red tide may be moving south of Pinellas – at least temporarily
Finally. The words everyone’s been waiting to hear. Red tide conditions may be improving at least for the short term. “The 11/18/2018 morning beach (red tide) observation report is ALL CLEAR,” stated the post on Pinellas County Environmental Management’s Facebook post.
And, the afternoon report for Nov. 17 showed no dead fish, no odors and no respiratory irritation at any of the 17 locations being monitored. No report was available for Honeymoon Island State Park. Slightly discolored water was reported at Sand Key Park, Fred Howard Park, Madeira Beach, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, Redington Shore and Indian Shores.
However, a few dead fish had been reported at St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Sunset Beach and Pass-A-Grille that morning. But no odors and only slight respiratory irritation at Madeira Beach, Redington Beach, Treasure Island, Sunset Beach and Pass-A-Grille.
Overall, that’s better news than past days and weeks.
