Number of dead, shot sea lions in King and Kitsap counties rises again
The number of dead and confirmed shot sea lions locally has risen -- again. The total now sits at 18, with 12 confirmed shot.
New necropsies from last Tuesday and Wednesday of two decomposed sea lion carcasses revealed that the animals were shot in the head.
The Seal Sitters Marine Mammal Stranding Network, which responds to reports of stranded or dead sea lions, noted on their blog that given the "advanced decomposition" of the animals necropsied this week, they are not "newly shot animals, just newly found."
