Milton to withdraw $500,000 RESTORE Act request for marina improvements

The city of Milton is withdrawing its request for more than a half million dollars in RESTORE Act funding to improve the Quinn Street marina after officials say the initial request for funding was woefully underestimated.

In 2016, Santa Rosa County Commissioners approved revitalizing the marina as one of 15 projects in their Multi-Year Implementation Plan that would receive RESTORE Act dollars. The marina was slated to receive $504,850 for the project, which city officials at the time estimated would cost a little over $1 million.

But City Manager Randy Jorgensen said he and staff reviewed the application and determined that the project will actually cost upwards of $2.5 million to complete.

“Approximately five months ago, I looked at that scope of work and felt it was extensive for the amount of the potential award,” he said.
