HI - NOAA fisheries seeking comments from the public on the proposed spinner dolphin rule

HONOLULU (KITV4) - NOAA wants to remind the public that the virtual public hearing regarding the proposed rule for Hawaiian spinner dolphins will be held this week.

The proposed rule is to establish time-area closures of the Hawaiian spinner dolphins' essential daytime habitats from 6 AM to 3 PM daily.

The comments from the public on the proposed rule are scheduled for Thursday, December 9 from 5 PM to 8 PM.

The partial-day closures would apply to portions of the following bays:

• Kealakekua Bay, Hawai‘i Island

• Hōnaunau Bay, Hawai‘i Island

• Kauhakō Bay, Hawai‘i Island

• Makako Bay, Hawai‘i Island

• La Perouse Bay, Maui

All comments must be received by December 27, 2021.
