Great Lakes - Water temperatures starting to warm, but Lake Superior still in 30s

Great Lakes waters are starting to warm up. Here’s a look at current water temperatures on our big lakes.

Saginaw Bay, the west end of Lake Erie, the south end of Lake Michigan and Green Bay have warmed into the 60s to near 70 degrees on the surface.

Look at northern and eastern Lake Superior. Surface water temperatures are still in the lower 30s. Lake Huron has some surface water temperatures as cold as 40 degrees. When Michigan has a sustained north wind or northeast wind, we will get the cooler air funneling off Lakes Superior and Huron. This weekend, especially Sunday, will have somewhat of a cooling from these northern Great Lakes.

Here’s a look at how each lake is comparing currently to historical average temperatures.
