Half of Queensland's once picturesque and bustling resort islands have now been abandoned and left in ruins.
What were once lavish tourist hubs surrounding the Great Barrier Reef stand derelict and have been left in disrepair for years.
Only 19 out of 35 of these former establishments remain open across the 29 islands in the Sunshine State.
Some were neglected after powerful cyclones destroyed the property, while other resort owners were buried too deep in financial ruin to be able to afford costly repairs or bold business deals.
