Beach improvements to begin early 2019

With 2019 approaching, Walton County can expect to see some renovations to popular South Walton amenities. Not only will the multi-use paths of Eastern, Draper and Deer lakes be upgraded, but so will the county’s public beach accesses, as well as the construction three more, according to Brian Kellenberger, director of beach operations for the Tourist Development Council.

The new regional beach accesses will include restrooms and public parking and be located in Miramar Beach, Dune Allen Beach and Seagrove Beach.

“This is an effort to have the construction details of all of our boardwalks and dune walkovers the same,” Kellenberger said. “The main purpose is I like to have things standardized, but also you (will) know you’re on a public beach access.”

Kellenberger said the multi-use paths weren’t dangerous, but had reached their service life. Construction on the Easter and Draper lakes’ projects are scheduled to begin sometime early next year, with operations at Deer Lake following a couple months later.

David Demarest, TDC director of communications, said that the wooden approaches to the multi-use walkovers at Draper and Easter lakes will be rebuilt, providing better support to the metal spans that already exist.
