Caroline Marks returns to Sebastian Inlet as reigning World Surf League Rookie of the Year
One year ago, 15-year-old Caroline Marks returned to her hometown Space Coast as the youngest surfer in history — female or male — to qualify for the pro championship surfing tour. She capped her visit by getting carried off the beach after winning the Florida Pro at Sebastian Inlet.
Now 16, Marks is back in Brevard County to defend her title — as the World Surf League's reigning Rookie of the Year.
She finished seventh in the 2018 WSL final rankings, racking up five top-five finishes and earning $146,450 while globetrotting waves around the world.
Marks grew up just north of Floridana Beach, and she attended Gemini Elementary in Melbourne Beach. She is homeschooled by Lighthouse Christian Academy in West Melbourne, and she is a high school junior.
She now lives in San Juan Capistrano, California, and her family recently bought a farmhouse in rural country west of New Smyrna Beach in Volusia County.
