CA - Oceano Dunes closed until October
OCEANO, Calif. (FOX26) — The Oceano Dunes will stay closed through October.
The California Coastal Commission sent State Parks a Cease and Desist Letter, saying a particular bird that laid eggs on the beach needed to be protected.
The Western Snowy Plover is a threatened type of bird that lays eggs in the beach sand. Normally, the birds stay out of the area where people walk, camp, and drive on the beach.
The Coastal Commission says that because the dunes have been closed, the Plover has set up shop in the areas where people recreate. A Cease and Desist Letter from the California Coastal Commission says that agency and State Parks have had some disagreements.
FOX26 asked what those were, but State Parks didn't answer.
