CA - County reveals 3 plans that could save eroding Capo Beach

Can a beach threatened by high tides, strong seas and erosion be saved?

If so, the question becomes: Should planners protect, retreat or accommodate the rising seas? Or should they use a combination of those options?

County staff on Wednesday, Feb. 26, met with about 100 community members in Dana Point to unveil three preliminary plans to salvage Capistrano Beach, a small stretch of coast that has been hit hard in recent years by battering storms and high tides.

What’s happening there could be considered a look into the future for other California communities, as sea levels are expected to rise and sand erosion continues to diminish beaches.
