Atlantic Beach to provide more handicap public beach access

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) - - The town of Atlantic Beach is stepping up its efforts to provide accommodation to visitors and locals who use the town's public beach access.

The town has received a $95,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Coastal Resources to replace and apply a handicap access on the west side of town.

It is planning to replace the current stairs west of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel with an ADA wheelchair ramp.

Mayor Trace Cooper says there are fewer handicap accesses on that side of town and believes this is a good fit.
