$3 Billion Deal: BMT to support US ocean and atmospheric agency

BMT has been named a prime awardee on ProTech Oceans Domain, a $3bn multiple-award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract serving the National Ocean Service (NOS), part of US-based scientific agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The five-year agreement supports NOAA’s mission to address the continuous and evolving economic, environmental, and social threats on oceans, marine platforms and coastal communities. BMT will assist the body with services covering programme sustainability, ecological resilience, navigation services and coastal observations.

BMT North America VP of business development, Rick Cox, said: "We are very proud to support the NOS in its endeavours to serve the nation as a global leader in integrated management of the ocean through our proven, smart ocean systems and observations, including our optical remote oceans’ sensing technologies for assessing ocean climate risks and disaster risk reduction.

"We’re also delighted to head-up a strong team including some of the nation’s leading scientists and technical experts in marine and aquatic research, and that further demonstrates BMT’s cross-functional team management expertise."

UK-headquartered BMT Group has 1,500 staff across c70 offices worldwide.

In the US, where it has six offices, it has provided a range of maritime-related services including coastal and marine management, navigation data, environmental services and ocean modelling support to US federal agencies, including NOAA, US Department of Agriculture, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense.
